The demand for seedlings of this species makes necessary to know about the germinative behavior seeds initial growth seedlings. objective present work was determine type substrate moistening conditions that are more favorable emergence development B. scandens. were disposed on three substrates: sand, vermiculite, commercial substrate, maintained at four levels 25, 50, 75, 100% water holding capacity kept in a greenhouse 60 days. following parameters evaluated: emergence, speed index, average time, number leaves, length aerial part root, diameter neck, fresh dry mass root. analysis variance performed completely randomized design, 3 X 4 factorial scheme, with replications 25 seeds. sowing should be carried out initially vermiculite until establishment seedling then transplanted keeping between 50 75% capacity.
